Quito
The emblematic Quinta Huasipungo homestead is a veritable treasure hidden in the heart of the colorful Guápulo neighborhood. The colonial style property has around 200 years of history and more than 10 heritage trees in its exotic garden. It is located just 60 meters from the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Guápulo and a few steps from all the restaurants, cafes and bars that characterize the whimsical bohemian neighborhood to which it belongs.
Over the years, the property has changed hands several times: its owners have included the poet Manuel Maria Sánchez, Coronel Jorge Rivadeneira, and the Belgian Ambassador. It is this iconic property that has been home to the official residence of the Kingdom of Belgium for the last 30 years. The aura of mystery can be felt from them moment you set foot on the property, as the current owners tell all about its history.
The property maintains the original architecture of the era that captivates with unique construction details. However, its current restoration and maintenance highlight the luxury and beauty within the old structure. There is no space that is not meticulously thought out, such as the windows and doors made of turquoise colored red eucalyptus wood or the internal patio with hand-tiled floors adorned with a typical stone water feature. The exterior part of the property is an Eden of palpable exotic and natural wealth. In the gardens there are several impressive heritage trees such as Yalomán, Magnolia, Arrayán, Nogal de los Andes, Pine, and Araucaria; all standing proudly alongside the tallest palm tree in Quito. The harmonious singing of the resident birds adds life and charm to the gardens, transporting us to a new ecosystem, a world away from the sounds and pollution of the city.
The walls of bedrooms and corridors double as an art gallery, each of them permanently hosting works by artist. On the second floor you will find one of the property’s most stunning spaces – the ample terrace with its lounge area provides the perfect environment to read a good book, enjoy a glass of wine, play a board game, or simply admire the view.
The dining room is a very characteristic element of the property, now filled with the dining set belonging to the ambassador of Belgium. The unusually large table requires custom tablecloths to be made for use, while allowing for the use of the ample space for intimate events or special celebrations.
In the main room the fireplace provides relief from the drop in temperature that comes inevitably each day at sunset, and combined with a classic hot chocolate is the perfect spot to enjoy a cooler afternoon. If you’re visiting in the morning, swap the hot chocolate for natural juice, add a personalized breakfast at your whim, and move from the fireplace to the garden … either way, you’re sure to enjoy yourself.
Today Quinta Huasipungo serves as a Boutique Hotel and an exclusive reception venue. It is the ideal place to celebrate any sort of social and / or corporate event, as it has a catering service and ample space to accommodate up to 600 people.
The facade and its colonial details will take you to another era. The restoration and the luxury of the service allow guests to celebrate their special occasions in an intimate setting; with a one-of-a-kind garden that transforms this magical place into a hidden treasure.
